I have a question I'm hoping the forum can help me with.

I feed my ekkie fresh foods twice a day. She barley eats anything in the morning. I get her up around 5:30 am, leave the food in her cage for an hour, then I need to leave for work, so I take the fresh food away so it doesn't spoil. She has roudybush crumbles in her cage all day long and I give her treats in her foraging activities. I weigh her weekly and she remains around 300 -310 grams. Should I be concerned about her lack of interest in her fresh food in the morning? Is her weight good for a young female ekkie?

Also - does anyone else own a bird that seem to spew regurgitated food if they drink water? She's not regurgitating as if mating, but instead will eat some food, drink a bunch of water and then basically the digested food will just dribble out of her mouth? It's weird. She's had a complete physical and she is healthy and she is acting normal (she's been doing this for quite a while so I'm not really alarmed by it, just kind of curious if anyone else's bird does this as well?)

    Thanks

i have tried feeding them the fresh foods in the morning and they eat it about the same. they are doing a lot better than they were. i have cut the dry seed back right now we are at 9 tablespoons. the lovie still gets a full dish of the seed mix because she doesn't eat the fresh stuff. i got a sample pack or roudybush pellets (not sure what type they are right off hand) and some zupreem pellets...... those aren't going over real good so i smashed them up and added them to the soft food. right now jack and bobbin get 2/3 cup of the mix i make for them (veggies, grains, dry mix, etc). i give nellie about a 1/4 cup and add some millet to hers, because she wont even look at the dish if i don't. about a year ago they were all eating the soft foods great and just getting the seeds as a treat, then they just quit eating it all to gather.......... so i had to start over. i try to get their weight atleast once a week. it does go up and down, but not anything to worry about (although bobbin is a bit over weight). jack tries new things all the time, but bobbin wont. the first time i put my mix into her cage she sat on top of her cage and screamed at me for 2 hours. bobbin is the queen so she won that day and she get her seeds........ and people just think kids are spoiled! i will switch "my mix" back to the morning feed again and see how that goes over again. thanks

    Hi
I feed a fresh veggie/15% fruit mix that remains in my bird's bowls all day. I don't feel comfortable leaving cooking food/mash for the day and I lightly spray the veggie mix with Apple Cider Vinegar, particularly in the summer months. I've never found my 6 year old male SI to be very 'food motivated' anyway, but you might sprinkle something interesting on top of what you're leaving in the morning. I use a sprinkle of ground flax seed, a little grated coconut, toasted Kashi or any number of other healthy items.
I take everyone out when I come home and they snack on sprouts or a good seed mix while I get their mash/cooked dinner ready. They eat on their playstands and stay out until bedtime. That way I can remove the cooked food when it's time for them to go to bed and I know their foods are fresh both during the day, and at night. I only use Roudybush CareLine Rice pellets for all my birds as I've personally found even some of the other 'natural' pellets still have too much sodium or other additives none of my birds need, especially the clec.
I don't know if this will help, but let us know how it goes. Sometimes, it's just a matter of observing and modifying eating arrangements/plans for them.
My clec doesn't seem to drip food/water but that may be a 'baby' bird behavior.

I give Chirpy dried fruit, nuts, greens, and carrots along with her regular diet of pellets and seeds.
