    Default "Irrational" Fears

Is there anything unusual that your bird is afraid of? What makes your bird feel safe?

Both of our birds are very well adjusted. They are always initially frightened by the sight of boxes for some reason. Anything new, big and bulky usually gives them a fright, as well. But they get over it almost immediately... usually as soon as I tell them it's okay and they don't have to be afraid. They haven't had any panic attacks or other serious reactions to anything, so far. I credit their even disposition with lots of exposure to new things. I carry them around with me while I do chores in the house, get dressed, pick vegetables out in the garden, etc. Anytime we are doing anything new and "scary" I always talk to them and tell them it will be okay and they are good birds. They seem to settle down pretty quickly and accept this verbal assurance.

Absolutely, exposure to a wide variety of objects and experiences from a young age is a great way to build their confidence and sense of security. My only bird that is somewhat "phobic" is my CAG who was 10 when I adopted him. In most situations he's fearless but then again something as simple as taking change out of my pocket and putting it near him on the bed will trigger his fight or flight mechanism. I can't figure that one out...
